Ministries at St. John's

WE THANK OUR MINISTERS AND
VOLUNTEERS FOR ANSWERING THE
CALL TO FULFILL THEIR
COMMITMENT TO THEIR BAPTISMAL
PROMISES AND MAKING THIS A
VIBRANT AND FAITHFILLED PARISH.
BLESSINGS BE UPON THEM
AND ALL WHO SERVE

Each weekend we come together as Christ's faithful to give thanks and praise, to be instructed by the Word and nourished at the Lord's table. From the assembly come lay people who serve at the Mass as "Liturgical Ministers." These ministries are integral parts of the Mass in that they serve to assist the faithful in full, active and conscious participation in celebrating the center of our faith, the Eucharist.

Liturgical Ministries

LECTORS

The reader at Mass, or "Lector" proclaims the readings with the exception of the Gospel. He/she may also read the Prayer of the Faithful. The lector is scheduled to read at one Mass per month. Training is provided for preparation, reading, projection and ritual.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS

Eucharistic Ministers or "Extraordinary Ministers of Communion" assist the priest in the distribution of the consecrated bread & wine to the faithful at Mass. Some ministers may also bring communion to our local nursing homes and hospital on a Sunday after Mass. The Eucharistic Minister is scheduled to serve one Mass and one nursing home assignment per month. Training is provided in theology, preparation and ritual.

In addition to the needs of our Parish , Beverly Hospital is still in need of additional Eucharistic Ministers to bring Communion to and to pray with the sick. Volunteers are greatly needed to assist with this worthwhile ministry. Training is available and even one hour a month would be appreciated and helpful. Those who feel called to this ministry are encouraged to speak with Fr. John [(978) 531-0002] who will, in turn, forward your name to John J. Kwiatek, Pastoral Care Coordinator at Beverly Hospital.

ALTAR SERVERS

The altar server assists the priest at Mass by doing many different tasks such as carrying the cross or candles or incense, holding the priest's book or help to set the Mass table for communion. The altar server is scheduled for one Mass per month. Training in preparation and ritual is provided.

MINISTERS OF HOSPITALITY - USHERS - WELCOMING MINISTRY

The greeter or usher is welcoming to all, regular and stranger alike, who enters the doors of our parish. He/she distributes the weekend bulletin and worship aid, assists in seating people, helps with the collection and offers assistance to a parishioner in need. Training is provided.

CHOIR

Along with the organist, cantors and choir members are essential elements in a parish music program, all included within our Music Ministry. The parish musician is able to add great beauty and solemnity to a celebration and can encourage and help the singing of the congregation. There is an adult choir, children's choir, contemporary choir and (in the works) a cantata choir. Training in music skills, preparation and ritual is provided.

Other Ministries

  CHURCH VOLUNTEER MINISTRIES

In addition to "Liturgical" ministries, there are many other areas which are nonetheless important to our liturgical celebrations. These are cleaning the worship space, laundering linens, attending to the care of plants and flowers, and decorating the church for various seasons and special liturgies. The commitment is approximately 2 hours per month.

We are calling all “weekend warriors” who would like to join our parish repair and improvement team. Over the years our team has painted several rooms and areas in our church hall and parish center, and made repairs to walls, floors and cabinets. We would welcome your skills. We will work around your availability. Many projects take place on weekends but you can let us know what time you have to help.

Also, we are always looking for parishioners who would be willing to bake. From time to time we are in need of baked goods for meetings and events in the parish, and of course, homemade desserts reign supreme! Maybe you make great brownies, Grandma's famous cookies or that simple and easy dessert which everyone seems to savor...! Our goal is to form a list of about 20-25 people who would be called on a rotating basis, receiving plenty of notice before the event.

There are also opportunities to assist other parish groups such as Pastoral Visitors, St. Vincent de Paul, Haven from Hunger, Second Languages & Helping Hands.

For more information on how you can be a part of our great team of ministers and volunteers, please contact one of our parish secretaries at (978) 531-0002.

For those interested in our Music Ministry (Choir), please contact our Music Directory, Cynthia Arsenault at (978) 531-0002..

For those willing to bake from time to time for meetings and events at the parish, please contact one of our parish secretaries at (978) 531-0002, Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Thank you!
